Geelong man receives bionic ear mantle

2 August 2006

Professor Rob Shepherd has been appointed as Director to Australia's Bionic Ear Institute, following in the footsteps of Professor Graeme Clark, the inventor of the bionic ear.

His appointment follows a global search for the right person. Portland-born, Geelong-education-the local man shone through.

 

Bionic Ear creator wins eminent medal – and files more patents

27 July 2006

Award and new patents mark the next steps for Australia’s Bionic Ear.

The patents will contribute to a future bionic ear giving greater clarity, music appreciation, and help for people with partial hearing loss, according to the Bionic Ear’s inventor, Graeme Clark who will receive the Ian Wark Medal at a lecture and dinner to be held in his honour in Melbourne today.

 

Campaign to map human mutations
14 June 2006
From 20 to 23 June, Melbourne hosted an elite group of international geneticists, meeting to plan a global project that will catalogue human mutations and help transform our understanding and treatment of genetic and common diseases.

 

Will our genetic heritage disappear overseas?

Australian geneticists are meeting in Canberra today to discuss how we can harvest Australia’s unique genetic heritage, before other countries do it for us.
