Can you explain your research in a way that is understandable, accessible and relevant? And do it in 3 minutes?

That is exactly the challenge put to 16 of Australia's brightest young research scientists each year in Fresh Science.

See them perform in Melbourne at the pub, at the unis and nationally in the media. And put your work to the Fresh Science challenge in 2005.

The late Ian Anderson, former Australasian editor of New Scientist, created Fresh Science as an avenue into the media for accomplished young Australian researchers.

Now in its 7th year, Fresh Science is a national competition that identifies scientists no more than 5 years out of their PhD whose peer-reviewed work is high quality and ripe for publicity. They are selected from research organisations, universities, CRCs and private companies.

The top 16 are given a day's media training in Melbourne. They then present their work at a press conference and other public events.

The aim is to provide fresh new science stories to the media while also training some of our most promising scientists in media & public relations.
